Marquee Hire Project Brief

The DFS Classic is the penultimate Lawn Tennis Association tournament for ladies prior to Wimbledon, hosted at the historic Edgbaston Priory Club in Birmingham. The Club is normally used to hosting more modest matches and the LTA wanted Danco marquee hire to provide a bespoke hospitality pavilion for the clients of the official hospitality company - Leisure Care Promotions. The title sponsor DFS, also needed hospitality space to entertain their own guests, and the two projects were dovetailed together to minimise build time.

The site itself did not easily lend itself to temporary structures, the combination of steep grass banks, limited working space clearance and restricted access provided a testing challenge to both our project management team and the on site crew.

Solution

The site chosen for the DFS structure was long but extremely variable in width, and so we designed a linked complex of different sized tents to maximise the floor space available to the client, and create a comfortable entertaining space for the guests.  Their area was at the top of an extremely steep slope, and hence we installed a custom built barrier and half height clear wall to allow the pavilions to be opened up without risk to the guests.

Multifloor

The largest construction on the site, the hospitality suites and viewing area, run by Leisure Care Promotions, was to be positioned at the top of an extremely steep bank overlooking the Centre Court and hence was initially unsuitable for our pavilions. We therefore installed a solid and level platform onto which the pavilions could be constructed, utilising the flexibility of design and strength of our modular Multifloor system. The adjustable legs on the multifloor meant that spanning the contours of the ground was easily achieved, and access to the platform was provided through custom made staircases.  The proximity to the playing surface meant that our crews utilised specialist lifting and access equipment to unload and build all the structures, leaving the pristine turf ready for the players.

This was one of our most challenging projects, and both the team at Danco marquee hire and our clients were justifiably happy with the solution provided – and, we are told, so were the guests.
