“Wallace and Gromit’s Grand Appeal”, The Mall, Cribbs Causeway, Bristol
We are very proud to have sponsored the marquee pavilion which held the spectacular Wallace and Gromit charity auction of 81 Gromit statues raising money for the Bristol Children’s Hospital Charity.
The Gromits, all of which were unique in design by artists & celebrities were auctioned under the watchful eye by TV celebrity Tim Wonnacott in a bid to raise vital funds for “Wallace and Gromit’s Grand Appeal”. They have all been on display throughout the summer at locations in and around Bristol and one at Paddington Train Station, London.
The “Gromit Unleashed Trail” was a huge success raising awareness for the charity and in late September all of the statues were assembled in a Clifton gallery where they could be viewed together.
Queues of up to six hours were reported as thousands of people flocked to the gallery prompting the organisers to extend opening hours to the delight of Gromit fans from far and wide.
Over 400 invited guests attended while a simultaneous online feed attracted interest from all over the world prompting jaw dropping bids for some of the more popular Gromits!
Gromit Lightyear designed by Disney Pixar raised the highest amount with an incredible final price tag of £65,000.
In total the auction raised nearly £2.4 million for the Bristol Charity and our congratulations go to Nick Park – creator of Wallace and Gromit & the team at Aardman, Nicola Masters and everyone else involved with the Grand Appeal.
The 55m x 20m marquee structure on 4m high legs featured solid wall panels, full black-out & star cloth linings, chinese hat holding area and full gable branding on the entrance / exit.
All of the team at Danco are very proud to have played a small part in the success of the auction and look forward to providing support again sometime in the future.
