Glastonbury Festival
Danco provided more equipment in 2011 than any other year to the festival, so how did it work being the main marquee contractor at this huge event?

Project Brief
The brief for Glastonbury is quite varied depending on the client; we worked for 5 different clients across the site including Glastonbury themselves. However the onsite difficulties apply to all of them. Measuring nearly 5 miles across at its widest point the Glastonbury site is huge; this provides unique logistical challenges where you aren't able to get close to the location you are building the structure with the delivery vehicles. The site is also farm land so points of reference aren't always the most obvious until you know the site. You have to have clear dialogue with the client to work out exactly where the marquees are to be erected. It may look like a vast field when we arrive to erect the structures 3 weeks prior to the event but by the time the festival takes place a phenomenal transformation has taken place where all the stages, stalls, concessions, walkways, camping and toilets are all strategically located. Add 137,500 people to the mix and space is at premium. Marquees are required all over the site for a vast range of uses including organisational posts, bars, nightclubs, trade stalls, public restaurants and staff canteens etc.
The Solution
Danco liaise closely with all the individual clients and plan the installation based on a number of factors including operational necessity, the amount of post build product works that take place in the marquees once we have finished and locations. From this we get an operational plan and ensure all clients are onsite when we are due to be erecting their marquees to ensure accurate siting of the structures.
