Royal Mail Distribution Centre
The increase in volume of mail during the Christmas period presents annual issues Royal Mail at many distribution depots across the UK. Danco marquee hire proudly work with Royal Mail at many sites to alleviate this pressure.
Whilst existing facilities can cope with the normal mail, the number of letters and parcels sent every December causes problems with both temporary storage and sorting space. Danco marquee hire were asked to visit various sites across the country to investigate possible solutions, integrating the temporary structures with the existing facilities where possible. The usual cold weather at this time of year also meant that structures being used as temporary workplaces needed to be kept at a constant and comfortable temperature.
The variation in requirements between sites meant a variety of solutions were provided. Some required large marquees with full lighting for basic storage which were located within the car parks and loading bays of the depot to allow easy and convenient storage of mail trolleys prior to sorting. Others were to be used for sorting areas and storage, hence were provided with either suspended flooring with a hard wearing Altro floor covering or anti-slip contour flooring to provide a level and comfortable working environment. Lighting and emergency lighting was installed by our contractors, and thermostat controlled oil fired indirect heaters were used to maintain the optimum temperature whilst in use. Link tents and ramps were constructed to allow access from existing buildings and emergency exits were fitted to all structures to comply with fire regulations.
One structure was over 1500 square metres and the only place to site it was on the staff football pitch! Some structures were to be in place for a longer period of time, and hence Danco marquee hire provided hard sides to the tent rather than the conventional PVC walls. This meant the structure had a more permanent feel, and was soon treated as part of the existing building by the staff.
All the marquee hire fixings were drilled and rawlbolted to the concrete base during construction and the holes reinstated after removal.
