This blog deserves a proper story to be told, due to the incredible feat that is the Essex International Scouts Jamboree being achieved once again by a fantastic team of organisers. So … it was a sunny Thursday morning when we arrived in 120 acres of field near Chelmsford, Essex and were directed towards the “Union Jack” at the start of the 10th largest town in the county.
We parked up near our Danco accommodation units, which are in place ready to welcome the dismantle team in a matter of days, and set off towards the branded gable of the Operations Hub.
Met by Chief Scouts (not Bear Grylls, but equally as impressive) Del & Graham, we were escorted around the vast site and able to photograph the majority of our 80 plus structures in use. The creativity and organisation of their team was second to none and we saw our clearspan marquees converted in to a 400 seater cinema, a bank, a supermarket, craft tents, a media centre, a pop-up restaurant which was manned by marines and even a hospital!
The word versatile has never been so apt and it was great to see this temporary Danco village made the most of!
Once we had by passed the temptation of the Scouts Jamboree beach, we explored each spoke of the wheel (perfectly demonstrated in the aerial image of the event) to see our sub station Chinese Hats creatively decorated in various themes revolving around the main inspiration ‘Our Changing World’, with each of the sub camps being named after an iconic person who lived in the last 100 years.
Whether they needed 4m high legs for the operations HQ, raised cassette flooring to give a solid base to the structure or the black out PVC roofs of our festival marquee for their dance tent, Danco had the necessary stock in-house to deliver the job in full.
With a Danco team of one Project Manager, three operations specialists, four HGV drivers, one senior foreman, a site crew of 12 tenters, and not forgetting over 2000 Scout and Guide volunteers the Essex Scouts Jamboree ‘city’ was built (it took a bit longer than a day!) and we were proud to once again be a part of this incredible international event for the third year running. We’re already looking forward to working together on the next event in 2020!
