Unfortunately, as is becoming fairly standard during this lovely British summer we are having, it was a slightly grey day when we popped up to BBC Gardener’s World Live at The NEC in Birmingham. It didn’t stop the hordes of plant loving punters though and there was a great atmosphere as thousands of folding shopping carts were wheeled around full of flowers, ornaments and gardening essentials.
Danco spent a week prior to the opening date installing a number of marquees, Chinese hats and screening under the watchful eye of our Foreman, Sylwester and Project Director, Les. This year marked the beginning of an extended annual contract with the organiser’s at BBC Gardener’s World Live, following an extensive enquiry process where we had to provide detailed method statements and Health & Safety information to complete work at the NEC, Birmingham.
Our experience and high standards paid dividends on this contract as it was very important that, following the drilling of multiple holes in a newly surfaced car park, the site was left as undisturbed as possible. In total, we built in excess of 45 Chinese hats, 750ft of 7ft high tubular screening and multiple other marquees that were used for ticket sales and the Gardener’s Interview Stage. Yes, the much loved Monty Don and his peers were in the marquee across the weekend, passing on their gardening expertise!
It’s amazing what we see inside and outside of our marquees as they are erected across the UK on festival sites, show grounds and private properties, but a rhinoceros made of artificial grass is a new one! The zoo themed sculptures were dotted around the event and our temporary structures were turned in to works of art with the beautiful floral displays they housed.
We look forward to working with the team in the coming years!
