Olympics Superstore

OLYMPICS SUPERSTORE

LOCATION:

The Retail People, Hyde Park, London

PROJECT BRIEF:

Danco create London’s largest ever “Pop up Shop” in Hyde Park. We were approached by “The Retail People”, a company set up to manage sales of the official Olympic London 2012 merchandise throughout the UK.

In the initial contact, discussions centred around the feasibility of Danco providing London’s largest ever temporary store at Hyde Park adjacent to the Horse Guards Barracks, Knightsbridge. A final plan was agreed to build several adjoining structures in the Royal Park surrounded by security fencing and also incorporating a delivery area and staff facilities.

Construction of the 12,000 sq ft store began in June 2012 with Danco providing all of the temporary structures and managing the installation of the lighting, heating, external flooring, linings, trackway and security fencing. During the build, the teams battled against unseasonal weather often leading to the area flooding, however after a couple of weeks the site was ready to hand over to the client.

SOLUTION:

The Olympic Store was officially opened on July 13th by Sir Steve Redgrave, 5 Time Gold Medal winning Olympian.

The store enjoyed a very busy 3 months of trading where particularly busy days coincided with Olympic Events in and around Hyde Park including the Triathlon and Open water swimming..

The Retail People also operated at a further two locations within Hyde Park utilising other structures installed by Danco.
