RNLI, Birnbeck Pier
The RNLI contacted Danco to see if we were able to provide a marquee 1/4 mile out to sea with the only access being a condemned pier.
The RNLI were in desperate need of a structure to protect their lifeboats and support vehicles from the winds and relentless weather on Birnbeck Island near Weston-super-Mare. The island is currently owned by a development company and whilst the various planning applications are proposed the RNLI were reluctant to commit to a large financial outlay.
Danco provided a marquee 1/4 of a mile out to sea for the RNLI, supplying a solid sided structure with vehicular access for the various boats and trailers, however the biggest obstacle was the access. The only way to and from the island was via a condemned pier that had a 1m wide pathway and severe weight restrictions.
We spent many hours looking at various products and logistical methods, and as you can see from the photo’s the end result was a perfect match of practicality and function.
The RNLI save many lives every year responding to emergency calls at a moments notice and we were extremely proud to help them on this project.
