SPECIAL OLYMPICS GB

PROJECT BRIEF:

The University of Bath became home to athletes and families competing in the Special Olympics GB and Danco were asked to provide marquee structures as official supplier for the Games.

Over 1,700 athletes with intellectual disabilities from England, Scotland and Wales competed in 12 sports at the 9th Special Olympics GB National Summer Games.

SOLUTION:

Leading up to the Opening Ceremony Danco supplied marquees with lighting, power and furniture to several locations in Bath. The hub of the event was at the University of Bath with marquees also erected at Hengrove Park Leisure Centre for the Swimming Competition, Bath Golf Club and for the Opening Ceremony which took place in Victoria Park on 28^th August with 7, 500 people in attendance.

As part of our service Danco also acquired a large number of easy erect canopies with covers in the University colours and specific sports benching. The larger marquees were supplied to provide a venue for the contestant’s families to congregate as well as the Entertainment Zone. These were sited away from the sports arena and to provide the power, Danco brought in several large generators.

Danco were also pleased to provide sponsorship for the Special Olympics. Several of our staff were invited to attend the event itself and found the experience inspiring and were proud to have been a part of such a memorable event.
