PROJECT BRIEF:
Surrey CCC contacted us back in 2014 to discuss the possibility of Danco supplying a temporary structure to cover their summer practice net areas on a long-term hire basis during the winter pre-season period. It would hugely benefit the team to practice outdoors on the field rather than indoors; allowing them to replicate conditions experienced during the summer months.
THE SOLUTION:
Following thorough site visits and bespoke consultations, we erected a clearspan marquee with our own range of clear PVC covers on the cricket field – one of the first of its kind in the UK.
As the pitch requires specialist maintenance and as its condition of huge importance, we had to cover the access route from our unloading area to protect the grass. Extra care was taken to ensure that nothing heavy was dropped onto the site during both the build and dismantle of the structure. Fully transparent covers were fitted on both the roof and walls; playing a pivotal role in the winning formula, not only allowing in natural light for the players, but also assisting healthy grass growth despite the time of year.
We also supplied a range of ancillary options; fitting the marquee with our aluminium guttering system complete with downpipes, to ensure that rainwater was directed away from the ground adjacent to the wickets. A combination of heating and climate control equipment were also used to minimise condensation and to improve conditions for grass growth.
This temporary environment has proven to be a remarkable success. Not only an achievement for the groundskeepers but also a real benefit for the players as they prepare for the season ahead. The cold and wet British weather no longer holds back the teams’ ability to train. With sturdy outdoor temporary structures providing substantial out of season nets cover, players have been able to practice to their hearts content.
The installation of our marquee has significantly increased the quality practice time for county teams as well as the national team. We hope teams continue to use our structures to their advantage before the coming season!
